Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Take a picture using GESSO, Lawn Fawn and Hero Arts

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope this week has found you well. I was up most of the night with a hungry little girl, but I’m not complaining. Just thrilled she is here with us. A true miracle. Both of my kids are… Kids. Still can’t get over saying that…. Thank you Jesus….

Today’s challenge is TAKE A PICTURE! Create anything that is film, camera, photograph related…. I chose to work with a couple of Lawn Fawn stamp sets and paired them with a technique I picked up from the cute Lisa Spangler…  GESSO! Here’s a look (all supplies are listed at the bottom of the post):

Let me explain. I started with a white piece of card stock and used several different color distress stains to create the background. I then took a thick layer of Gesso and applied it with a palette knife… I then took the envelope pattern stamp set from Hero Arts and pressed down into the gesso and got this amazing texture as a result.

To bring out the texture even more, I rubbed some Weathered Wood Distress Paint mixed with water over the top……  I then took the filmstrip image from the Hero Arts/Studio Calico Borders set to incorporate the sentiment….

And there you have it. A little mixed media card. I don’t do mixed media often as I don’t have the skill for it, but after seeing Lisa’s technique video, I had to give it a try!

Hello HELLO HELLO! I am so happy to be back with my Lawnscaping gals. It’s been about 3 months or so I think……. :) I dusted off my crafty supplies and tried to find some mojo!! We are sponsored by the fabulous Simon Says Stamp! The winner of this challenge will receive a $25 gift card to their online store:)

Here is what I created inspired by the challenge:

DSC_0014wtmk

I masked the circle and applied the distress ink pad directly to the card stock. I sprayed the stars stamp with Perfect Pearls and stamped onto the distress ink panel. I colored the ice cream images with copics and popped them up with some dimension. I wanted to add some more bling so I dug out some glossy accents, rhinestones and liquid pearls…

I hope that you will play along with us!!!! This is such a fun challenge and I can’t wait to visit your blogs and be inspired!!!

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Happy Mail – Keep Calm and Eat Chocolate

Hello and welcome to another Simon Says Stamp challenge! This week’s theme is all about bringing happiness to a recipient!  Not a specific occasion or reason… Just something that would brighten someones day…. The Design Team is using Technique Tuesday products and I am using this stamp by Teri Anderson. HELLO! As soon as I saw the chocolate set, I knew I had to have it….

DSC_0006wtmkThis little mini set is adorable. I love the chocolate bar and the little Hersey kisses! I wanted to keep the color scheme dark because it reminded me of chocolate, so I pulled out my new and never used Distress Paints and came up with that marbleized looking background. If you would like to see a quick video on how I made this background, let me know….

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: April Showers and/or Spring Flowers

I'm back!

It’s good to be back. It’s been at least two months since I have gotten crafty! From the hospital stay trying to get my blood pressure under control, to the emergency c-section, to the NICU and finally home with a premie and 7 year old (blog about the experience here)…. All while trying to recover from surgery and get my blood pressure in check.   I so appreciate all my design teams allowing me some time off. I am happy to be back to playing along with Simon Says Stamp! I have missed my Simon family. I will rejoin my other two design teams next month hopefully.

Before I get to my card, I wanted to say thank you to all of those who have reached out to me, whether it be by email, postal mail or commenting on my blog. I have read every single one and appreciate all the kind words and support! And so many of you have even gone as far as to send something to me for Lily! I can’t begin to tell me how blown away I am by all the kindness from you all. Thank you so very much!! Really! THANK YOU!!!!!

On to the card! April Showers or Spring Flowers! I opted to go the flowers route! I wanted to make something fun and happy, and at the same time, something I could work on in shifts! With a newborn, you just never know how much time you are gonna get!

I did some pencil coloring on this one. I stamped the GORGEOUS Flower Table Cloth background stamp by Hero Arts and stamped in with Hero Arts Soft Sand Shadow ink and the colored the flowers with Prisma colored pencils! The banner and sentiment are from the fabulous Simon Says Stamp exclusive line. I went around the edges with some Tim Holtz distress ink. I typically stay away from the colored pencils because to me it looks so hand colored, but today, I was feeling the mood. And I like the way it turned out. It’s a different look for me. And if the recipient doesn’t like it, I will tell then my 7 year old did it! He. He.

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Anything Goes

Hello everyone! Welcome to another Simon Says Stamp challenge!!!!! Today’s challenge is ANYTHING GOES, so get inky and play along with us!!!! The Design Team is using Tim Holtz products, and you guys know how I LOVE distress inks, so of course I had to use them for today’s card!!! :)

DSC_0019wtmk

I took some masking paper and masked off areas of the card and then blending in two different colors of distress inks. After applying the first shade, I moved the masking paper down a little and applied the second shade. Added a little water flicking to finish off the area. Loving the hearts from Simon Says Stamp exclusive line….

Trio of Birds using Hero Arts and Dry Embossing

DSC_0008wtmk

Today, I found time to make a card just to make a card. No challenge, no DT… Just me, my Ipad and my crafting goodies! I was inspired by the Clean and Simple 2 card class today… That class is chalk full of inspiration and ideas…… I print out the PDF files every day and keep them on my desk… SO much inspiration, so little time! :)

DSC_0009wtmk

I stamped the birds with 3 different background stamps from Hero Arts.! I love the woodgrain embossing folder by Tim Holtz!!! Even better when I add some distress inks to it!! :)  This card is universal. Slap on a different sentiment and you can have a completely different card….

I hope you enjoyed today’s card!!! :)

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: FAVORITES!

Happy Wednesday everyone! We have had a wonderful week with a visit from my mother in law all the way from Texas. I let Lucas miss a couple of days of school, but shhh, don’t tell!!! Today’s challenge is a fun one because it inspires you to break out your favorite crafty products. Stamps, supplies, inks… Whatever………… Let me show you my card and I’ll give you one guess what one of my most “favorite” things is….

DSC_0005wtmk

HE HE! If you guessed distress inks, then you are right! DING DING DING! I love distress ink products. The pads, the markers, the stains…. They are all fantabulous! On this card, I used distress inks on the gorgeous Hero Arts flower and then I inked up the Hero Arts Graph Background with this super cool metallic stain and got this great great COOL background! All products can be bought as individuals or as lots! And here’s a close up of the detail:

DSC_0008wtmk

I added some silver Liquid Pearls to the center of the beautifully embossed Stencil flower (embossed with Wow embossing powder)….

I’ve made some videos in the past using distress inks. You can check them out here where I create a background using distress inks and water, here using the markers, here using distress inks with acrylic blocks, here shows creating tie dye look with distress ink pads, here is some quick coloring with distress ink pads… I am sure there are more, he he he….

Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Snowflakes PLUS VIDEO

DSC_0004wtmk

Welcome Welcome to another Simon Says Stamp challenge! Today’s challenge is all about SNOWFLAKES! The Design team is using GLITTER RITZ products this week! I love Glitter Ritz glitter. It is microfine glitter that is just perfect. Once you burnish it (rub over it with your finger or bone folder or something like that), the glitter stays PUT! I don’t know about you, but I hate getting glitter all over my hands and clothes!!! Here is a close up of the card under light, which hopefully reflects some of the sparkle from the glitter! But in real life, those penguins are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lawnscaping COLOR CHALLENGE: Sweet Yummy Christmas

DSC_0004wtmk

I love love love love LOVE this color challenge peeps! Absolutely adore it and one of my favorite color combos to use!!! That’s right! This week’s Lawnscaping challenge is all about color!!!! I had so much fun creating this card but before I get to the deets, please let me thank our amazing sponsor, Simon Says Stamp!!! They have generously agreed to sponsor our challenge this week with a $25 gift certificate to their store!!!! Perfect Christmas shopping money if you ask me!!!!!!

This card is pretty fun and fairly easy to mass produce! I love using distress inks and trying out new techniques. I used this techniques once before and love the results. I simply masked off two areas and used my Tumbled Glass distress ink and applied a pretty heavy coat of it using a blending tool, then readjusted the same and used the same technique, only with a softer touch. WOULD YOU GUYS LIKE TO SEE A VIDEO ON THIS?  I will gladly make one today if someone requests it…

Loving the gingerbread people from this set.   I stamped them onto kraft, and colored one of them in with Copics and left the other alone. Added some liquid applique for the frosting and some Liquid Pearls for the buttons and popped those cuties up with some dimension…
