Sketch AND Color Challenge, YES! I did it again!!!

You read it right. Even though I said I would never combine two challenges again, I did it! I saw this color challenge on Ashley Newell’s blog and just fell in love with the colors (white, kraft, green, HELLO!!!!) because those are colors I ALWAYS use, so of course, I wanted to participate!!! I have now added SPCC to my google reader and will become a faithful follower and participater whenever possible!

Before I get on with the challenge, let me just say AAAAAHHHHHHH! I HATE tying ribbon. Please, anyone. Tie up a bunch of ribbons and mail them to me! Seriously. Two hours, 5 tutorials (VIDEO tutorials at that) and I STILL COULD NOT DO IT! You will notice a button masking the horrid attempt at my ribbon tying! Wah. I just  can’t do it!!!

So, here we go. On with the challenge and submission (click each picture to enlarge):

I found somehow (maybe thru splitcoast stampers, maybe thru another blog that I follow, I honestly can’t remember,  (yes, that is how many blogs I follow) a tutorial on edge distressing using a serated knife! It worked wonders. It was so easy. And EVERYONE has a serated knife! Hey, in thinking about it, it may have been the SCS Twitter I follow where I found the link.. Anyway, off subject. If you haven’t distressed edges and want to, try it! So easy. Just be careful not to cut your hand! :). You can distress as little or as much as possible. I chose to do a minimal distressing for my first time…  I also watched this online tutorial about 10 times attempting to get some help tying a ribbon… Her voice is incredibly calming and she really is a good teacher. I am just a dumb student…..

I tried to get my pear to be multi colored using a mixture of the inks on my stamp. It probably would have came out much better if the background had been white and not kraft. I took the inspiration from the color of the pear from this photo:

  1. I like the card Laurel. You know that I won’t be sending you any bows since I can’t tie them either. 🙂 I just bought something called Bow Easy that’s supposed to make tying bows simple but I haven’t had the chance to try it out yet. I watched Becca’s tutorial too and couldn’t do it either. She has the most amazing bows on her projects. And you won’t have to use the knife for distressing much longer. I sent your package yesterday so I think you might get it tomorrow. You’ll be able to distress to your heart’s content!!!

  2. Bow easy. I am intrigued. What is it? Oh, I can’t wait for my package. Tell me how much I owe you so I can send it to you. I have paypal or whatever you want me to do… I did have fun with that knife though I have to say. Had a strange rush come over me when I picked up that knife and took it to my card, ha ha ha. Can’t wait for my stuff! Thank you so much for ordering it for me… I love the added look of outlining the pear on my card. Looks like my 3 year old did it!! Grrr…

  3. So glad you have joined the fun @ SPCC! & I’m with you on the bow tying thing…I can’t do it either…I think you are either born to tie ribbons or NOT! LOL! Love your card…& your bow is great…mine would end up with a button in the middle too! :o)
